Kwali’s introduction

Coming from french overseas departments involves a kind of duality. Leaving french overseas departments to metropolitan France increases it. This duality means to be connected when it also means to be firmly rooted and to some extend, away. The artist Kwali exemplifies it.
Feeling oneself to be an artist can be a long process, a kind of rebirth. Kwali faced it. He walked along introspection. He thought long and hard before finding his own musical style.
Far from being a novice in musical universe, he enjoyed musical experiences as a rapper but also as a music arranger for artists such as Edmond Mondésir, Erik, Swé, Valley or the band Cubanito 20.02.

2021 proved to be a decisive year for Kwali as it is the year of his artistic blooming. The first result is this stage name : Kwali.
Kwali is a sound architect, polyvalent and eclectic. His creation is full of sounds-dots gradually fusing into an harmonious whole. It can be compared to pictural pointillism.
2022 is the year of Kwali’s fulfillment and irrepressible need to create and introduce his work. This is the year he made the decision to compose for himself and to release his first EP entitled "1404 Kwality Street".

About the EP

"1404 Kwality Street" explores the love theme as well as melancholy.
It conveys several ambiances and emotions. Unmistakably an eclectic album, "1404 Kwality Street" reflects Kwali’s first love and background in hip-hop. The way he is concerned with making music, combining styles and distilling eclectic sounds reminds Madlib.
Mixing hip-hop, downtempo and jazzy melodies, Kwali shows that every styles are unbounded.
"Cloud Tribe", the downbeaten hip-hop opening tracks, inspires an ethereal soundscape. Both tracks "Another Life" sustained with a jazzy trumpet touch or "Cosmic Love" highlighted by a soulful vocal, inspire a daydream mood.
As he’s able to combine styles, Kwali manages to lead in a festive musical atmosphere too. That’s the case on "Electrify Us". He blends pulsing percussions with a kind of tribal rhythms and succeeds in maintaining the meditative mood : the common theme of the EP.
The EP ends up with "Alone with You" and Kwali illustrates how important it is for him to keep hitting the rythm. Guitar sounds like spoken words as the warm voice of the refrain conveys melancholy. However this track has something very comforting.
"1404 Kwality Street" is an intimist EP that inspires and bridges the gap within oneself.
